They say it’s never too late to try something new, so after a dark, rainy autumn with many challenges, we chose to make it easy for ourselves: Charter with all-inclusive to the Swedes’ favorite island since the 1960s, Gran Canaria.
Even though I am full of prejudices against this concept, the trip was booked, the bags were packed and we went out to Arlanda just as Stockholm was paralyzed by the worst snowstorm since, at least, last year. However, the plane was in place and the problems only arose after we boarded. When the plane was outside, it needed to be both de-iced and dug out and once this was done, Arlanda closed 2 of 3 runways due to the snow. Fine, I understand safety above all else, but for heaven’s sake, we live in Sweden…it snows here in the winter and why didn’t anyone plan in so the plane was de-iced before boarding?!?
The trip itself then fulfilled quite a few of my prejudices, many passengers ordered GT’s and beers for breakfast and we sat like packed herrings but I have to admit that it was nice that everything was fixed and ready when we landed and even though it took a little while to get the stroller that was checked in as special luggage, the transfer bus was waiting for us so nicely.
The hotel, which has 3 different restaurants, a couple of bars and two pools, one of which is like a playground for small children, is actually better than expected and the pool was an immediate success with junior. Charter and all inclusive might not be so bad after all?
